Kennedy work horses

The Kennedys came to Alpena to help with our new house projects! They were a great help, mainly by babysitting g man :). Katie is particular was a great help with gg, and she even got him to nap by herself, and he didn't get out of bed once! He loves her so much!!
Here's some of the babysitting help:

Rough play:

We tried one day of kids at the house. That didn't go so well...

We had a LOT to do to prep g's room. Not only was it the dirtiest room, but there were about 3,457,356 nail holes that needed to be filled. If you look closely at this picture, you can see all the blue pieces of tape, marking each nail hole:

Lunch break at the beach:

Baaaaaaat!!!!!!!!! (See Amy's blog). And don't worry, Justin let the bat live:

Two walls are cream:

And two walls are green:

And sometimes we took swimming breaks:

Tofu bites with broccoli for dinner (and Amy photo bombing in the background):

More progress! Brown trim and detailed door work:

Other side of the room:

Garden helper

Yesterday, GG helped me pick and wash basil for our dinner. I guess when you tell a two-year-old to "wash", he takes you literally. Yes, that is dish soap :/

Kitchen and bathroom remodel 1

I know you have all been waiting on a house update... So here are some pics to show the progression of the big project of the house: the kitchen gutting and the bathroom upgrade.

Before: standing in the dining room, looking into the kitchen.

During: wall is partly down...

Now: bye bye wall! Actually, this is all painted now (which is another story...) but you get the idea
Here's more pics of the steps along the way

Kitchen before. The open door is a second door to the bathroom we are remodeling

Kitchen before

We had to take the ceiling the ceiling down, too. Lots of work. Well, for the crew we hired :)

Another look at the doorway to the bathroom

Demo halfway done

Old lathe board. Very messy!

Multiple layers of wallpaper and wallboard under the wood paneling. We saved some to frame later

Linoleum tile on the wall in a kitchen? Why not!
Also, that white pipe was just hanging out in the corner of the kitchen, so we had them build a fir wall (?) to hide it since it couldn't be moved.

Fir wall framed in and insulated

Drywall!

More drywall. See anything missing? The bathroom door is gone! The stove is going to go there.

Look at all that nice drywall!

New ceiling with canned lighting.

Painted!
Next steps:
Floors go in starting tomorrow, then cabinets come next Thursday. After that, it's a three week waiting game while we wait for the quartz countertop to come in.

Traveling back to MI: Erica's wedding

We had a relatively uneventful trip back to Alpena- besides the fact that we almost missed our plane in Denver!!! Like we were the last ones on!! We got to the airport 1 hour and 45 minutes ahead of time. Apparently that is not early enough for a Sunday at 5am at DIA :/. We made it, running with no shoes, but we made it!

Riding the "up high choo choo" in DTW

Sushi in DTW

Happy on the plane

Dinner when we got home.
Thank everyone for a great trip to CO! So glad that the family could be all together to celebrate Erica and Carter!

Saturday fun day: Erica's wedding

Saturday morning, the Kennedys, Curls and CCs headed to the Boulder Farmer's Market for yummies.

Dumplings!!!

Playing

Taken by one of the kids. So cute!!

Skipping to Erica's house BBQ. Gemma and GG had a love-hate relationship. I believe Gemma was saying, "no, baby Grey!" in this pic, as GG was tackling her stuffed animals head first.

"I'm a movie star!"

Sedric and Grey also had a love-hate relationship (or was it hate-hate?). Whenever Grey sees pics of Seddy, he says, "no push beebee." Yikes.

Seddy+Emma=<3

Back to the farmer's market

Gender reveal! After this pic my phone died. Oops.

Garden tour at the BBQ.

Cousin shot!

Looking for the big tomato bug guys

Justin taught Grey how to shoot a squirt gun at the BBQ. Now he snipes people with squirt guns (and hose handles)
